A Hypnobabies Birth

I was excited as I arrived at Courtney's house. I was looking forward to my first hypno-birth and had been studying Hypnobabies techniques for quite some time in preparation for this birth in particular. On arrival I found Courtney and her mother upstairs. Her mother was filling the birth pool and Courtney was alternating between chatting and and focusing on each pressure wave.

Things quickly progressed and I suggested several positions for Courtney's comfort. She was calm and collected and easily fell deeper into hypnosis with each pressure wave. The team from the birth center and myself, her husband, and mother moved about the room quietly as Courtney focused, breathed, and relaxed. Jerry, her husband, was happy to go up and down the stairs, bringing pots of boiling water to warm the birth pool.

Finally, it was time to get into the pool and Courtney continued to progress. At times I had to use her cue words to help her to relax and bring her deeper into hypnosis. Never once did she cry out or tense in pain. During transition, baby poked his little arm out and pushing became uncomfortable, however Courtney faced this development with concentration and focus. I watched her face as her baby finally made his arrival and she pulled him from the water. I can only describe it as pure joy. We were all so excited that big brother and sister were also able to be awake to watch their little brother be born. It was the calmest and the quickest birth I had ever been a part of. This experience made it clear to me how effective hypnosis during childbirth is and I'm so grateful to have been this beautiful family's doula.
